We have great news for Spanish-speaking candidates of the WSET. The Wine & Spirit Education Trust announced that, starting in August 2013, Level 3 will be offered in Spanish.
Up until now, candidates whose first language wasn’t English had the option to attend the Level 3 course, study the material and do an exam of 50 multiple-choice questions, along with a wine tasting in which they were asked to identify the correct option for each parameter. Once candidates had passed this test, they received the so-called "International Higher Certificate". The course content was the same, but the evaluation system conditioned the way candidates studied, being less demanding and complete than the Level 3 course in English. The grading in the latter consists of the same exam of 50 multiple-choice questions, together with a tasting of two wines, which the student has to describe using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®, as well as 5 essay questions, which show if the candidate is able to connect all aspects that influence the style and quality of wines produced around the world.
Well, starting this summer, The Wine Studio will no longer offer the IHC and will only offer the Level 3 in Spanish with the same evaluation system and, best of all, with the same advantages offered by its English version: Direct access to the Diploma (Level 4) without the need for an entry exam (provided candidates are able to handle such a wine-marathon in English) and the right to use the "WSET Certified" logo for personal correspondence, on business cards, etc. The Level 3 courses scheduled for 2013-14 at all our locations in Madrid and Logroño will be evaluated according to the same requirements as its equivalent in English.
